Tourist itinerary in Tuscany: The Siena land

Itinerary map: daily touristic tour of about 135kms

Departure and arrival: “Podere La Villetta” Tuscan farm house with playground for children

Keeping the “Podere la Villetta” farm house as a departure and arrival point, we recommend a touristic trip in the Siena Lands.

Siena is the most perfect city of Tuscany; Splendid with its unchanged historical center from the mediaeval age and full, like nowhere else in the world, of artwork, sacred and civil architecture, of ancient traditions and flavors. The city of Palio, which takes place in the Piazza del Campo every year on the 2nd of July and the 16th of August. For the tourists it’s only a folkloric and breathtaking horse race. For Siena’s citizens, instead, it is the result of a preparative hard work of 12 months.

The Piazza del Campo of Siena is one of the most beautiful mediaeval square with its seashell shape. Around the square you can see the main buildings of the city such as Palazzo Pubblico and la Torre del Mangia. Dedicated to Assunta, the Duomo is one of the most beautiful Italian churches. It is an art treasure chest that can’t be compared to any other. The urban development is divided in 3 parts: Banchi di Sopra, Banchi di Sotto e Via di Città. Siena praises the production of the honeyed and peppered bread, perfumed of cloves and other spices, historically known to be first produced by the heir arrived in Tuscany from the Orient in 13th century: Il “panpepato” rich in almonds, walnuts, dried figs, peanuts, dried sugared fruits, cacao, sugar honey and spices.
Monteriggioni small enclosed military village conserved intact the 13th century walls with its 14 tours. Poggibonsi, Certaldo and San Gimignano, and its beautiful ancients tours. Land of art and mediaeval, history and culture, which can be enjoyed through the eyes, the mind and the palate. Coming from the soft hills surrounding San Gimignano, La Vernaccia, equally famous in all the world to the saffron spice cultivated since the 13th century.

On the trip back to Siena, we recommend 3 stops: Colle di Val d’Elsa, the San Giovanni Battista Church in Mensano and the very little village of Torri.

After the splendid monuments and landscapes, that have nothing to envy to iconic frames, we recommend to come back to the “Podere la Villetta” farm house to end your day with a relaxing moment in company of excellent wine of our own production and the tasty typical Tuscan cuisine.
